Communication
Parent LetterCommunication with parents is critical for any teacher and starting an open line of communication is the first step in establishing this relationship. Through this assignment, I learned how to build a positive, yet functional, parent letter to send home so that parents could know who I was. As a teacher, opening that line of communication is crucial and can make or break the relationship between parents with this first initial contact.

Language Development and Strategies to Support Student's Language
Each student communicates in their own unique way, and thus learns the language in their own way. For some students, written words are all that they need to be able to receive and express the language. For others, a visual and/or auditory component is needed for them to understand the word and repeat it. By using the iPad, students are able to use a multi-sensory approach when learning.
When I found the Questions2Learn app, designed by our school's Speech Pathologist Leanne Pool, I realized that not only could this app be useful for comprehension, but also for language development. The app itself is designed to produce a series of "who," "what," "where," etc, questions with pictures as answers. It can be customized for each student and also collects data for you.
During my 2 full weeks of responsibility, I decided to incorporate this app and make comprehension questions regarding the books. I was amazed at how helpful this app was for comprehension and pleased that all of my students were able to get the correct answers after a few trials.

Transition Project
While writing my transition plan, I had to use effective language in order for every reader to understand the information being presented. Not only did the language need to be grammatically correct, but it needed to be legible to someone who might not understand all the technical terms used within the Education System. I used general language instead of educational jargon so that the parents and student could understand the transition plan.
A fake name was used in the transition plan document to the right.
