Professional & Ethical Practices
I strive to be the best person that I can be and have always been someone who is diligent about being on time, appropriately dressed, and always interacting with a smile on my face. I have learned that these traits are necessary when representing a University program around the community, especially when involving peers, mentors, students, and parents.
During my 15 weeks of student teaching, I followed the guidelines for professional and ethical practices by abiding by the school's schedule and all polices; ensuring that all of my assignments were submitted on time; took initiative on performing tasks; attended any and all school functions, meetings, or professional development; displaying respect and curtesy toward those from all cultural backgrounds; and communicating effectively with mentor teacher, administration, and parents.

ARD MeetingsConfidentiality
Confidentiality is of the utmost importance and by signing my name on the ARD paperwork, I learned that all information discussed is to only be discussed with those that were on the ARD committee. I also learned that paperwork must be kept in a safe place so that it cannot be seen by those who shouldn't see it. Whenever I was allowed to look at paperwork, I was reminded to put it back immediately and not leave it face up unattended. I am now able to recognize when to keep all documents confidential and what can be shared with the correct people.

Sensitivity Toward Cultures and DiversityCommunity Mapping
Through a community mapping project, I learned a significant amount about why it's important to learn about student's cultures and communities and incorporating them into the classroom. Every student comes from a unique combination of their background, culture, and community and utilizing these unique features will bring a sense of community understanding into the classroom. I also realized that knowing this information will help to understand why a student might come to school unbathed, unfed, unhappy, etc, and recognizing that making judgements about the family will not help a student in any capacity.
