College Station Job Alike
During my time student teaching under Mrs. Gray, Elementary LIFE Skills at Rock Prarie Elementary, I participated in two Job-Alike Trainings. The District holds "Job-Alike's" once a month for each group within the Special Education Department: PPCD, LIFE Skills, Resource, CASL, and Adapted Behavior. The LIFE Skills Teachers were gathered to discuss areas in which teachers felt they needed the most help and feedback.

This Job-Alike meeting included both the LIFE Skills teachers and Resource teachers. The area of focus were IEP goal and PLAAFP Alignment. Each teacher was given a PLAAFP and goals for two students and were asked to identify key elements that were missing and were to determine if the goals matched the student's needs. The group was then broken into two to discuss the activities in a small group, led by the Special Education Directors.
The activities and discussions helped me to understand why IEP and PLAAFP alignments are so critical. It is easy to criticize someone else's paperwork, but it is much harder to remember to include every piece of information in one's own paperwork. My biggest takeaways from this meeting were to make sure I use either a written checklist or a mental checklist and to remember to verify the IEP goals, PLAAFP and FIE align. |

This Job-Alike meeting included an activity that used each teacher's own paperwork from an ARD meeting they had within the past 6 months. The objective was to look through the IEP and rate yourself on each competency included on the checklist/rubric. I looked on Mrs. Gray and we went through and rated each aspect of the checklist. We looked at the previous year's goals and made sure they changed from year to year, as they should align with grade-level TEKS. We also looked for baseline data in addition to verifying alignment between PLAAFP and goal data. I was able to see what components were missing and discuss how and where they could be included next time. I enjoyed being able to go through this process using the checklist/rubric so that I know what is expected of my paperwork as a future teacher.
The photo embedded above was used at this Job-Alike meetings I attended and is a written checklist that covers all necessary areas a PLAAFP should include. I found this to be a fantastic resource and am thankful they shared this document with me. |
